This heart has been carved and then polished from a vibrantly coloured piece of Blue Calcite. This beautiful stone has a lovely opaque milky blue appearance and one popular for its healing qualities.
Calcite is a carbonate mineral, so far around 800 different calcite crystals have been identified. It is a white or clear colour in its pure form but the presence of other minerals mean that it can be anything from red to violet or blue. The actual name calcite comes from the German word ‘calcit’ meaning limestone. Calcite is the principal constituent of limestone and also marble. On the Mohs hardness scale calcite is number 3. Calcite is almost identical to Aragonite with the same composition. However they are different because of their different crystal structures.
Metaphysically, Blue Calcite is a gentle and very calming stone. A stone with the ability to calm the mind and bring peace and tranquility. It is also a stone that healers use to assist those suffering from depression and anxiety. This is a stone that helps stimulate creative energies, and improve communication.
