Meteorites and Tektites are both fascinating and mystifying, just the thought of it! Being able to hold in your hand something from outer space, something from out of this world. Meteorites are by definition ‘space debris’ that have arrived on Planet Earth from either a comet, asteroid or meteoroid. Large ones can light up the night sky and are seen by thousands, over wide areas. The smaller ones however are just a momentary flash in the night sky. The really large ones can weigh hundreds even thousands of tons, whereas the smaller ones can be the size of a grain of sand. It was a large meteorite that struck the earth with such a devastating impact that it led to the extinction of the dinosaurs. The selection that we have on our web site for sale are from well documented meteorites. These come from North Africa, South America and China.
Tektites are a rare form of natural glass created when asteroids strike planet Earth. There is still an open debate about them and they are not fully understood with various theories and unanswered questions. This all adds the charm and mystery of these fascinating objects.
