Blue Opal Pendant set in Sterling Silver
This beautiful Blue Opal Pendant is simply stunning! It is the only blue opal we have been able to obtain owing to being unusual and sought after. The rich royal blue iridescent and oceanic colours in this pair of opal ‘doublets’ are both soothing and tranquil. Doublets consist of two layers of opal, a layer of colourful precious opal and a second layer of ‘potch’ or black opal. This gives the gemstone strength and helps amplify the colour. The pendant is Sterling Silver with a 925 hallmark on the clasp. Beware of artificial opals masquerading as real opals online. In the past few years artificial opals have increasingly been seen for sale online as real or genuine opals…. there’re not real!
Opal come in a whole range of colours ranging from black to white and virtually every colour in between. Apart from the different colours opals can be transparent, translucent or opaque. These variations are due to different conditions during the formation of the stone. Blue Opals consist of microscopic silica spheres, these minute spheres can be seen in all types of opal, but in blue opals these spheres are smaller.
Metaphysically, opal is the birthstone for October and was once regarded as the ‘gemstone of royalty’. These days however people regard Opals as ‘seductive’ and now align with love, passion and desire. It is also a very protective stone that can enhance creativity, and optimism.
