This sterling silver Moldavite and Rock Crystal pendant is extra special. It is a stunning hand-made design with a 925 hallmark inside the clasp. The Rock Crystal is a beautifully clear and vibrant. This Moldavite is from the Czech Republic, in the Vltava River valley. It is the result of a meteorite strike 15 million years ago. Moldavite is unique, it the only tektite of gemstone quality. The Quartz Crystal and Moldavite combined makes this a beautiful pendant. Moldavite is a translucent and vitreous tektite and it also has a mossy green colour, with a distinctive dimpled and rippled appearance.
Tektites have been ‘mystery’ object for a long time, and they also divided opinion. They were first described in a book in ancient China in 900BC during the T’ang dynasty. The current, widely held theory, is that tektites are the result of meteorite impacts. The resulting incredible temperatures melting both stone and soil, and throwing them high up into the atmosphere. The resulting ejecta fell rapidly cooling and covering a wide area, or strewn field.
