Ice Age Fossils
Ice Age Fossils, Mammoth, Cave Bear, Bison & Deer
After the dinosaurs were wiped out 66 million years ago, something totally different, and new evolved. Over the course of many millions of years, the first warm blooded animals appeared. The beginning of the Pleistocene period over two and a half million years ago saw temperatures plummet, leading to ice sheets and glaciers and covering large areas of planet earth. Although temperatures were fluctuating slightly during this period, they remained very low. This our most recent ice age only came to an end with warming temperatures around 11,700 years ago. Fossils from the ice age are predominantly of animals that have much more in common and are related to the animals that are alive today. The mammoth, and huge cave bear are extinct but the similarities with todays elephant or brown bear are self evident. There are also other creatures, much like the ones we have today early bison, horses and deer.
