Oval Bloodstone Pendant set in 925 Sterling Silver
This oval Bloodstone Pendant has a setting in 925 sterling silver. Bloodstone is one of the more unusual semi precious stones and has a gorgeous opaque forest green colour with random ‘splashes’ of bright red.
Bloodstone is also known as ‘Ematille’ and ‘Aggregate Heliotrope’ it is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz mostly occurring as Jasper. The splashes of bright red that occur within Bloodstone are actually inclusions of iron oxide minerals usually hematite. Bloodstone is a hard stone measuring 6.5 – 7 on the Mohs scale and is the traditional birthstone for March. Australia, India and Brazil are the countries that produce the most Bloodstone together with Madagascar. In India they crush a lot of the best quality Bloodstone into a fine powder where they use it as a powerful aphrodisiac.
Meraphysically, Bloodstone has strong symbolism and also a long and well documented history as a powerful stone. This was a stone that the Ancient Greeks and Romans regarded as having exceptional healing qualities. It is especially noted throughout the centuries for illnesses and issues related to cleansing and circulation of blood. Heelers often use it as a stone that can help detoxify the liver, kidneys and spleen. This is a stone that conects with the root chakra and is a powerful grounding stone.
