This Chevron Amethyst Egg measures 4cm and has gorgeous, wavy bands of colour. Chevron Amethyst, sometimes known as ‘Dog Tooth Amethyst’. It is a combination of Amethyst and White Quartz. This however is not formed in crystals, but in veins in the rock.

Amethyst is a purple form of the mineral quartz, and the February birthstone. It is probably one of the most famous out of all the semi-precious stones. Historically, amethyst has always been treasured as a semi-precious stone. In medieval times it was common for soldiers to wear Amethyst amulets. This was because they believed that Amethyst offered protection on the battlefield. The actual name Amethyst, derives from the Greek word amethystos meaning not drunken. This is due to the fact that at this time there was a belief that it was able to prevent intoxication. Amethyst is a stone that comes from a number of countries, but especially South America.
