This gorgeous dark green Bloodstone Pendant is set in 925 sterling silver. The classic ‘marquis’ shape together with the subtle dark green and ‘flashes’ of red make this a stunning piece of jewellery. Bloodstone is one of the more unusual semi precious stones and is unlike any other stone.
Bloodstone is also known as ‘Ematille’ and ‘Aggregate Heliotrope’ it is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz mostly occurring as Jasper. The splashes of bright red that occur within Bloodstone are actually inclusions of iron oxide minerals usually hematite. Bloodstone is a hard stone measuring 6.5 – 7 on the Mohs scale and is the traditional birthstone for March. Australia, India and Brazil are the countries that produce the most Bloodstone together with Madagascar. In India a lot of the best quality Bloodstone is crushed into a fine powder where it is regarded as a powerful aphrodisiac.
Meraphysically, Bloodstone has strong symbolism and a long and well documented history as a powerful stone. This was a stone that the Ancient Greeks and Romans regarded as having exceptional healing qualities. It is especially noted throughout the centuries for illnesses and issues related to cleansing and circulation of blood. It is also regarded as a stone that can help detoxify the liver, kidneys and spleen. This is a stone that is associated with the root chakra and thought of as a powerful grounding stone.
