This Pendant is a gorgeous design, combining Mother of Pearl and Freshwater Pearl. The pendant in hand crafted Sterling Silver and hallmarked 925 on the clasp.
Mother of pearl is a natural and sustainable material made from the polished shell of a nacre-producing mollusc. When polished, Mother of Pearl has a beautiful soft, silky appearance, with simmering flashes of green and red. The colourful effect comes from the ‘nacre’ the molluscs secrete within the shell. This is the same material that creates the beautiful lustre on pearls. Freshwater Pearls are ‘cultured pearls’ produced by Freshwater Mussels. The name ‘Mother of Pearl’ derives from the latin mater perlaum. It was, and still is, widely used as an inlay in musical instruments and furniture. These days, Mother of Pearl is produced in a sustainable way, international trade is strictly monitored, and also is protected by an agreement signed by 170 countries. Mother of Pearl comes from a variety of countries, including the Persian Gulf and the Pacific Islands.
