Miriam Jasper has incredible, random patterns in orange and brown colours. These are are in fact the fossilised remains of organic material. These are fossils of plants and trees that were alive 40 million years ago. This was when plate movements made the landmasses of India and Eurasia collide. This led to the formation of the Himalayan mountain range, and Miriam Jasper! Confusingly this stone is known by several names, for example, ‘Elephant Jasper’ and ‘Caligraphy Stone’. In India, from where the stone originates, they call it Maryam Sange.
