Fossil Jewellery
There is undoubtably something very special about ammonites, maybe it is their superb natural coiled shape. One thing perhaps doesn’t come immediately to mind is the colour. Some Ammonites when polished display the most amazing natural colours. When sliced in half the calcite filled chambers really are stunning with lovely shades of golden brown. In our collection we also have some stunning Madagascan Ammonites set into silver. The iridescent colours of these 120 million year old fossils are truly amazing. They come from the North East coast of Madagascar and are sometimes known as ‘Fire Ammonites’. The opalescent colours are the result of the mineral aragonite being present during the fossilisation process.
