Blue Howlite & Coral Pendant set in Sterling Silver
This unusual Blue Howlite & Coral pendant is set in Sterling Silver with a 925 hallmark on the back. With its rich Blue colour this pendant has a gorgeous contrasting vivid red coral cabochon. With its rich blue colour Blue Howlite has contrasting black veins running through. Blue Howlite or ‘Turquenite’ is a semi precious stone with a similar appearance to Turquoise (and is sometimes seen for sale masquerading as turquoise) the colours are often very similar.
Blue Howlite is as a borate mineral that is principally that consists of calcium together with silica and other minerals. In its natural state it often comes in irregularly shaped nodules that are usually white. It is a mineral that owes its name to the Canadian mineralogist Henry How (hence the name Howlite) who first came across the mineral in 1868.
