The large opaque oval Blue Howlite cabachon has gorgeous black veins running through it that contrast with the rich blue colouring. Blue Howlite also known as ‘Turquenite’ is a semi precious stone that is often mistaken for Turquoise as the colours can be very similar.
Blue Howlite is classified as a borate mineral that is principally composed calcium together with silica and other minerals. It is generally found in irregularly shaped nodules that are usually white. It is a mineral that was only discovered in 1868 by the Canadian mineralogist Henry How (hence the name Howlite)
