Because this is a mineral that contains copper, it is often found in association with Malachite and Azurite. It gets its name from the words ‘chrysos’ and ‘kolla’ ancient Greek words for ‘gold’ and ‘glue’. Because it contains copper ore it was used to solder gold, hence the name. Chrysocolla comes from a variety of countries including, Australia, Central Africa and also Chile and Peru. The Lily Mine, Pisco Umay in Peru is the source of this chrysocolla egg, it is located about 200 km south of Lima.
