Description

Polished Preseli Bluestone

This piece of polished Preseli Bluestone is from the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. The blue/green colour together with grey and ‘mottled’ white are colours typical of this lovely stone. It has been expertly polished, very tactile and measures 5.8cm across and weighs 85gm.

Preseli Bluestone was the stone chosen to build the inner circle of Stonehenge around 4000-5000 years ago. Originally there were thought to be over 60 of these stones in this inner circle. These huge stones, each weighing over 4 tons were transported to Stonehenge from Carn Menyn, Pembrokeshire a journey of 150 miles. This rare stone is a composite of several igneous and metamorphic rocks which can only be found in Pembrokeshire in the Preseli Hills. Patches of Plagioclase feldspar are also found in a fine grained blue-green matrix. The minerals found within the Preseli Bluestone include Dolerite, Epidote, Rhyolite and also Quartz.

Metaphysically, because Stonehenge is famous for its mystical and astronomical connections this is a powerful stone. Preseli Bluestone is known as a “dream Stone’. It is a stone with strong connections to the heart and throat chakras. It is a stone with powerful energy that can also help us to connect us to ancient rhythms.
