Starter Fossil Collection, Dinosaur, Orthoceras, Sharks Tooth, Mosasaur Tooth, & Trilobite

This Starter Fossil Collection would make the perfect gift for any budding collector. It would appeal to anyone with an interest in fossils and be a first step towards building up their own collection. The two earliest fossils are a Trilobite and also an Orthoceras Nautiloid, these date back to around 400 million years ago. There is also a section of Dinosaur bone together with a fossilised sharks tooth and Mosasaur tooth.

The Mackerel shark otodus obliquus existed approximately fifty to sixty million years ago during the Eocene period. The term ‘Mackerel Shark’ refers to the shape of these sharks, not their diet. They were fast and streamlined and ‘fish’ shaped and lived in open seas. The Mosasaur was a large marine reptile that lived in the late Cretaceous period. Mosasaurs were a very sleek shape, with a broad and powerful tail. Mosasaurs thrived in shallow inland seas, approximately 80 to 66 million years ago. Trilobites are some of the very oldest fossils, this particular specimen is approximately 400 million years old and comes from Morocco. The section of Dinosaur Bone is difficult to identify. It dates back to the late Cretaceous period  and is most likely one of the theropods. The spinosaurus, deltadromeusor and also the sabre tooth carcharodontosaurus are also strong possibilities. The Orthoceras Nautiloid is an extinct form of cephalopod, a marine creature, related to todays squid. These creatures ranged in size from a few millimetres to over 4 metres in length.
