This extra large Purple Fluorite Point measures 12.9cm tall, with gorgeous bands and ripples of rich purple. This is a stunning specimen and would make a superb addition to any mineral collection. It stands well and has been highly polished with a sharp tip and has a gorgeous tactile feel to it.
Fluorite is also know as fluorspar, and belongs to the halide family of minerals. It is the mineral form of calcium fluoride. The actual word fluorite comes from the Latin word ‘fluere’, meaning to flow. It is an unusual mineral because it can be found in a such a vast range of beautiful colours. Depending on the impurities present it can be almost any colour, from clear to black and white. Other colours include blue, green, red yellow and brown. Fluorite comes from a number of countries, with the largest producers including South Africa, China and Mexico. Additionally there are a number of smaller deposits in the UK including the famous ‘Blue John’ mines in Derbyshire.
